From her journey in the nail industry and her go-to products, to her goals for the year ahead and what being part of The Nail Tech Org community means to her.

Tell us a little bit about you!

I’m Micky Lamb 57 & my business is called Nails by Micky, I’ve been a nail artist since 2020 so 6 years now, I can’t quite believe it.

I have been married to Andy my husband for 36yrs & we have 2 sons Tom & Connor, they are all amazing, we just celebrated our youngest getting married in July.

I have 2 amazing parents now in their 80’s, (my mum is totally blind) & I have a brother, my best friend & biggest cheerleader Adrian, we all love being together, any excuse for a get together at our house.

I love aqua aerobics, road trips, holidays, going out for dinners, wine & Aperol spritzers….

My Bestie lives in Tenerife so I try my best to get over there whenever I can.

We have family in Canada so love visiting Canada too especially in the winter, we love the snow & ice fishing on the lake.

How did you get into nails?

My journey started in 2020 (lockdown). Out of what was a terrifying situation, I made a good one. I’d always loved nails & wanted to do nails. I used to do my mum’s all the time, being blind.

I was a terrible biter. I used to stick those glue-on nails that were already coloured or had a fancy design.

From 2014, I worked as a HCA (healthcare assistant) at a private hospital/home. I had worked really hard gaining my Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare. In 2020, it became terrifying & my anxiety was so bad.

I used to watch all these tutorials doing nail art. Amy was one of them, TGB Academy & Kirsty Meakin. I was addicted, but it really did calm me.

I was buying tips. I paid for a really cheap online course & bought so many cheap products on Amazon & started to play. I was saying at work, “I am going to do a nail tech course.” So I did.

I found this amazing company & did online workshops. Then, when you could, went to Manchester & did some of their courses. The ladies that trained me are the top educators of Glossify to this day.

In 2021, I joined NTO. I will never forget joining. I felt like I knew Amy. After many online courses & then in-person courses, I had gained enough qualifications to go for it!!

We already had a room outside in the garden. My son helped me set it up & he built me my nail desk, which I still use to this day.

2021 was when I changed my life. I left my job. This was a massive gamble. I now had to get clients on that seat.

I worked so hard, emailing, messaging & really plugging appointments on my Instagram page (this tool was the best). I soon collected enough to start.

Then, on April 16th, this day is so vivid. I remember that first client walking through my door. I was so scared.

How did you find The Nail Tech Org?

I found NTO via Amy’s tutorials on Instagram in 2020/2021. I’ve been a member since then.

I was so addicted to watching the tutorials. This really did change my life!

What’s your fave thing about The Nail Tech Org?

You all feel like a family member. Just knowing you are there, I don’t feel on my own.

I must admit I am bad at the interaction. Monday check-ins, oops… but I do go on, look & read. I use the app a lot.

Amy is a little bundle of joy. I was very lucky to meet her & the girls at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool last September at the ManiFest event. That was amazing. Meeting all those nail techs under one roof, so much inspiration & talent.

So yeah, I love NTO for the closeness, education, information & love.

What’s your favourite course you’ve done with us?

I’ve done a few courses now. Amy is so good… she gets ya all excited & you just wanna sign up… lol… I’ve done a few on-site. I’ve paid for excellent courses too…

So far, my favourite has been the Builder Gel. I’m so passionate about my BIAB application & the correct application for individual clients. So informative & my certificate is proudly shown on my wall in the salon.

My next course is The Educator Programme. I’m so excited to start & nervous. With my dyslexia, I have to triple-read & handwrite things so my brain absorbs things better.

What are your favourite kind of nails to do?

I love a nail journey. I’ve done many & they all now have incredible nails.

Helping someone grow their nails, whether a biter or been really damaged, is the best feeling. I’ve had clients crying, nervous to walk through my door. But I’ve been there, done that, been to those salons, had the pain, bitten down so far it hurts & picked enhancements off.

No one can pull the wool over my eyes, oops.

Diverted, I love in-depth prep. The key to the best mani!

Tell us about a holy grail product in your kit.

This one’s hard. I have a few, but it will defo be my The Gel Bottle Rubber Base.

This is the best foundation after good prep for any gel manicure. It’s the best.

Who is your dream client?

I do love a MAN-icure. Men are so dry. It’s so satisfying doing their cuticles, but I suppose you mean dream…

Has to be a client that listens to my aftercare advice, oils. Some just don’t realise how important oiling is. This makes such a difference to your next maintenance appointment.

Do you have any future plans? Let us know!

Well, yes I do. I’m now 57. I actually thought I was too old when I started. I did ask my educator… but apparently, absolutely not.

I’ve learned so much. I’m so passionate about nail health & the correct way to practise gel application. So with excitement & nerves, I’ve signed up to do my Educators Diploma with NTO.

With my dyslexia, I always have that voice in my head, “You can’t do that”… but so far I’ve not been beaten!! I will do this…

I’m part-time now. I’ve wanted to do this for a while. I needed to wait till the right time.

I feel I want to pass my skills on to new nail techs. Everyone does find their own way of working, but it’s the foundations I am so passionate about.

I don’t want to retire & not have passed all the good I’ve learned the past 6yrs. I just don’t want it to be The End!
