Hey Lucy from @lucyhickenmua!

Tell us a little bit about you!

Hey, I’m Lucy I’m 27 years old and I’ve been in the beauty industry now coming up to 10 years, 4 of which doing nails and working for myself. 

Setting up my own business and going full time was the best thing I ever did, I’ve never looked back!

I love travelling and exploring new places and you’ll always be able to find me at a concert.

I have a degree in specialist hair & media makeup where I learnt to do special effects and prosthetics. 

How did you get into nails?

I was working part time at Space NK whilst also working in a salon in Nottingham doing makeup, where we realised clients were looking to get their nails done too, so I jumped at the chance to train.

We went into lockdown 4 months after I did my training so I didn’t have many clients, but I spent that time practising nail art everyday, I opened up an Etsy shop selling press on nails and it was during this time that I realised my love for nail art.

My aunt always tells me the story of when I was ’revising’ for my GCSE’s, she’d come in and I would be sat painting my nails instead, I think I always knew I’d end up doing nails I just didn’t know how!

What’s your fave thing about The Nail Tech Org?

The community!

Since being a part of TNTO I’ve made some amazing friendships, everyone is so supportive and willing to help out. I’m so grateful I found TNTO, Amy and all of the other incredible team members. It really is like being apart of one big family. 

What’s your favourite course you’ve done with us?

Educator elevation! 

I’ve recently just passed as an educator and it was the best experience. My confidence has grown massively from the help of all the NTO team and the support they provide. I’ve also learnt more than I could ever imagine, the course is so informative! 

I would love to make it onto one of the retreats too, they always look incredible – maybe 2025…

What are your favourite kind of nails to do?

I loveeeee painting mix & match nails, something where I can be my most creative. 

The press on nails I used to do were always mix & match designs, they’re the most fun and I always end up with every gel colour I own out on the desk. Creative mess is my favourite kind. 

Tell us about a holy grail product in your kit.

My clients will already know how much I love the Nuxe dry oil, I spray this to add moisture after every set of nails.

My sets aren’t complete without it, it smells incredible and hydrates the nails after gel application. My clients are also obsessed with it too.

Who is your dream client?

I’d have to say Harry styles, I’d love to paint his nails for his brand Pleasing or an award show. 

I’m always intrigued to see what mani he’s wearing next, they’re always something fun and colourful.
