The 6 Biggest Winter Nail Trends of 2026

Winter is coming, and if your clients are already swapping their summer brights for something a little moodier, you’re in the right place.
This year’s winter nail trends for 2026 are looking SO good. We’ve got rich, chocolatey shades, icy French tips, velvet finishes and dark, glossy nails that we’re already obsessed with.
But it’s not ALL moody colours this winter. We’re throwing some bright, scarf-inspired tartan nails into the mix too, because apparently even our knitwear is giving us nail inspo now.
And don’t worry, you won’t find a snowflake on every finger here. We love a festive set as much as the next nail tech, but there’s SO much more to winter nails than Christmas nail art.
Whether you’re a nail tech looking for fresh winter nail inspiration for your clients or you’re planning your own next set, we’ve rounded up six of the biggest winter nail designs and colours worth following this year!

1. Brown-Toned Burgundy Nails
Burgundy for winter? We know, hardly breaking news.
But brown-toned burgundy nails are giving the classic a little upgrade for 2026, and we’re VERY into it.
Think deep, wine-inspired reds with warm chocolate undertones. Rich, glossy and just a little bit different from the burgundy shades we see every winter.
And honestly, these dark winter nails don’t need much else. A gorgeous colour, a glossy top coat and you’re done. Although, we wouldn’t say no to a subtle cat eye finish either…
2. Icy French Nails
The French mani has officially entered its winter era.
Icy French nails are swapping those classic white tips for something a little frostier. Think silver chrome, pearly shimmer and that gorgeous, almost frozen-looking finish.
And no, you don’t need to paint a single snowflake to make these feel wintery.
Keep your winter French tip nails super subtle with a delicate shimmer, or go all out with frosted chrome. Either way, we’re obsessed.
3. Velvet Nails
If you’ve spent 2026 perfecting your cat eye technique, don’t put that magnet away just yet.
Velvet nails are sticking around for winter, and we can see why.
That soft, shimmery finish is SO satisfying, especially when it catches the light. And when you pair it with a rich winter shade? Even better.
We’re particularly loving chocolate and deep berry velvet nails this season, but honestly, this trend works with pretty much any colour.
Minimal effort on the nail art front, maximum impact. What’s not to love?
4. Dark Blue Nails
Black nails, we love you. But dark blue nails are coming for your winter spot.
There’s something about a deep, glossy navy manicure that just looks SO good. It’s got all the moodiness of black, with a little more colour to play with.
And if your clients usually stick to burgundy or black throughout winter, this is definitely one to show them.
Keep things simple with a glossy midnight blue, or add a little silver chrome if they’re feeling fancy.
Consider us converted.
5. Winter Aura Nails
Aura nails aren’t clocking out for winter. They’re just switching up the colour palette.
Winter aura nails are taking those gorgeous blurred blends we loved all summer and giving them a cooler, moodier feel.
Icy blues, smoky greys and deep berry shades are looking particularly good right now.
And the best bit? You can make them as simple or detailed as you like. A soft, hazy blend looks gorgeous on its own, but add a little chrome or some tiny stars and you’ve got a whole different look.
We’re not over aura nails just yet, and judging by these winter nail designs, we won’t be anytime soon.
6. Winter Tartan Nails
Okay, hear us out. Your favourite winter scarf, but on your nails.
Winter tartan nails are bringing a MUCH-needed pop of colour amongst all the burgundy, brown and navy we’ve been obsessing over.
We’re talking bright checks, clashing colours and proper cosy scarf vibes. The louder, the better, if you ask us.
And if your client’s not quite ready to have a full tartan moment, a couple of accent nails will do the trick.
BRB, raiding the scarf drawer for nail inspo.
Which winter nail trend are YOU trying first?
Burgundy, dark blue, icy French tips, velvet finishes… winter nails are looking SO good this year, and we’re struggling to pick a favourite.
The best bit? There’s something for everyone. Whether your clients are all about short, simple winter nails or love going ALL OUT with nail art, there’s plenty to get creative with.
Now the only question is, which trend are you trying first? 👀
