Just starting your nail tech journey or in the thick of it? Wherever you are on your nail timeline, there’s always room for improvement, learning and growth.

One of the main struggles that us nail techs go through (yes all of us!) is learning how to perfect our nail art skills.

From French tips and floral designs to abstract swirls to detailed patterns, it can be frustrating when you don’t get it right the first time, or even the sixth time.

Practice makes perfect

Excuse the cliché but it really is true. Nail art is a skill that can only be mastered through lots of practice.

Whether you’re practicing on yourself, friends, family or on some spare tips, uninterrupted and concentrated practice is essential to improving your skills.

As long as you’re not with paying clients, don’t be afraid to fail!

With this time, you can literally clean up any mistake you make, re start multiple times and really focus on the methods you are practicing.

Experiment

When it comes to practising your nail art, make sure you try to experiment!

Experimenting with different colours, techniques, textures and products will help you step out of your comfort zone, rather than sticking to what you’re comfortable with.

This will definitely help you when you get those clients who want something crazy on their nails and boost your confidence along the way.

Join the Nail Tech Org community

We may be biased, but joining the Nail Tech Org is a fool proof way to take your nail art from 0 to 100.

Our community of nail artists, paired with hundreds of nail art tutorials will give you all the practical advice and inspiration to take your nail art skills to a whole new level.

Interacting with the industry around you can be helpful if you’re struggling, as others could offer pieces of advice and techniques that you would have never thought of yourself, and in time- help you grow.

Level up

If you do need a little more help in improving your skills, try enrolling in a face-to-face nail art class to really get some hands-on experience, or even watch tutorials on YouTube to learn new skills and practices.

There’s always a route available, that you haven’t explored yet, that will help you improve your skills.

Supplies

Admittedly, better-quality supplies alone won’t make you a better artist, but investing in better tools and taking care of them will go a long way.

For example, the right length and thickness of a nail art brush can take your French tips from the most challenging design to the easiest and fastest. Just like the right gels can take your nail art from lacklustre and dull to vibrant and shiny.

Shop around, see what your fave nail techs use and try them for yourself.
