The Beauty Spot Streetly – Lets chat with Rebekah

First of all, we would love to get to know you better! Tell us a little bit about you..

Well i’m Rebekah, i’m 32 years old and i looooveeee my job. If someone was to ask me what my nail art style is I would say detailed negative space designs. There is something so satisfying about freshly laid builder gel and I think it’s a crime to cover it up! I run our beauty salon in Sutton Coldfield with my sister Hannah and we are best mates! I’m very motivated and when I put my mind to something I am very determined to achieve it. I have wanted to be a beauty therapist since I was a little girl and I always felt so lucky at school when my friends weren’t sure on what career path they wanted to take that I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

What do you love most about being in the nail industry?

I love that there are no limits when it comes to nail art! You can literally take the most randomest thing as inspo and adapt that into nail art. I also love how supportive other nail techs are especially since the pandemic. I am fairly new to the instagram game and i’ve met some incredible artists who have been so supportive. I know that if I’m not sure on how to do a certain technique, advice is only a click away.

You have been in the industry for a while now, what has been the highlight?

That’s a really hard question, in the salon I’ve had some lovely highlights. Some of my clients have been coming to me for over 10 years and watching them get married and have children is always lovely to be a part of and I would definitely class that as a highlight. When it comes to achievements I feel opening my business with my sister at 21 years of age and how far we have come along that journey makes me so proud. The past few months have been amazing for me and a personal highlight to come off the back of instagram has been Magpie asking me to be a brand ambassador for them. I was soooo thrilled when they asked me, I can’t explain the feeling. It was amazing.

How do you find using Instagram to grow your business?

As a pre established business with a healthy client base I didn’t enter into the social media world to gain more clients… that being said it definitely has brought a lot more business my way. I think looking back I started it as something to keep me focused during the lockdowns and I saw it as a way of getting my name out there. My clients used to bring in photos of incredible nail techs work to their appointments asking me to recreate their work and what I really wanted was for them to come in and say “Rebekah I want your design” so I used the time to showcase what they could have after lockdown was lifted. I’m happy to say it worked!

 …

What is on your goal list for the rest of the year?

Goals…  okay so I definitely want to be featured in a magazine, that would be amazing! I would also like to travel with work. My mantra is if someone offers you an opportunity no matter how scary it is to push yourself outside your comfort zone you must say yes!

…

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration can come from the randomest places. I usually start with a colour combination and then the rest falls into place. I am constantly saving pictures of textures and patterns on my phone and sometimes i use just colours from it or peices of shapes etc…

If you could tell yourself as a beginner something.. what would it be?

Never do anything half heartedly. People see passion and they will support and believe in you. You’re on the right path. Believe in yourself.
